So Red came up with this idea to create a button set, themed as Villains. It showcases the evil Professor Villain along with his mechanical creations, KillBot, DeathBot, DieBot, and EnzoBot. Above is what we came up with! We were trying to get these ready for Katsucon (which is this weekend!) but due to all this snow business that mother nature's been ejaculating on our area, it may have to wait, aw shucks.

Tonight we all say farewell conan and fuck you nbc. I mean both Leno and O'Brien are good night time talk show hosts, but i prefer Conan. Why didn't they just fire Jimmy Fallon and given the Late show to Leno? After all this talk about the late night screw up, i came up with this image - cuz it just makes sense. As Teela from Masters of the Universe put it, "Don't say goodbye. Say Good Journey."

Welcome to the new year, and another year of REGRBL! So, so sorry. But still, a new year means it's a time for resolutions! And your local blue hero has one of his own: keep the blog nice and updated. So we've got some old events to catch up on:

'Twas a hot summer day, long ago, in August 2009. The RGBoys, Cup and Purple are off to meet Wings, HorseCookies and Lilac at Busch Gardens! We agreed to meet at the bumper cars so we can drink and drive in a contained atmosphere. You know Busch Gardens belongs to Anheuseur Busch, right? Because Red sure didn't.

I used to love the swing ride when I was a kid. Turns out it's still pretty awesome.

So we meet and decide to start off with an awesome rollercoaster.

But who can resist a retarded 3D ride at THE CURSE OF DARKASTLE!?

We spend a lot of our day waiting in sweltering hot lines (thank god for beer)

So we go cool off at the Roman Rapids. Alliteration makes me wet.

Connecticon '09

So... here's a one month old post, back from when we went to Connecticon. Since it took place so long ago, so many shots ago, this is going to be primarily a picture post (not that anyone reads this for the writing). Maybe it was a bad idea to put me in charge of these con updates D:

Connecticon on Friday was rough. Red, Green, Purple and I pretty much left Virginia at midnight and arrived in time to set up our table in the morning. My first priority was to find the bathroom while they found the table and started setting up. Whilst paying my alms to the porcelain god, I received a phone call:

"Uhhh, Blue, you need to hurry up..."
"What? Why?"
"We just realized... none of us know how to set the pvc up."
*silent laughter*

One of the coolest parts of Connecticon is the artists' party. Inyx, the artist who organizes the whole dealy invited us to a party for "networking". We were hesitant, but we were told there would be pizza and drinks. Sold. Good marketing; artists tend to be starving.

As we stumble back from the party, we bump into Sandeep Parikh (better known as Zaboo, from the webseries "The Guild"), Rahiru (who posted a video of RGB acting... not so heroic... on the forum), and Kilika (longtime friend of RGB. I was told I accidentally punched him in the face. Sorry!)

And believe it or not, we actually did manage to get some work done while we were there:

By "we" I obviously mean Red and Green. This is also the first con we started selling buttons!

Sadly, we lost our portfolio (and all contained prints) in Connecticut...
but... Connecticut didn't arrest us for drunk in public (even though we gave it three REALLY good chances to)...
So I guess we're even.

Otakon '09

Hey guys, Blue here. Sorry about the long delay in getting this post up! Forgot to bring my camera this year, so we had to get pictures from our friends. Then Green had to superimpose our heads to ensure our secret identities remained secret. Then add in the fact that I am one of the world's top procrastinators, and well... you get a week-old update!

Friday was a pretty simple day for us. Red and I set up the table while waiting for the rest of the group to arrive to check in to our hotel. During which time, we got to meet several of our lovely forumites, and Red and Green got to pump out some pretty cool commissions:

Really do wish we got more pictures of the commissions - honestly, it feels like the guys spent the entire con drawing. Purple explored the con and caught some fun cosplayers, though:

After all their hard work, and Friday con events coming to an end, we realized we failed to set up dinner. What can you really expect from poorly organized otaku, though? Deciding to postpone it for tomorrow night, we go to Hooters for beer and shots. Maybe some food, but it was mostly for the beer and shots.

We couldn't take the skybridge on our way back to the hotel. It was closed like I'm the god BAC (that's short for Bacchus for the educated, Blood Alcohol Content for the rest of us) had intended it. This caused us to pass the fountain on our detour. The conversation went thusly:

RGB: Man, remember that year we jumped into the fountain?
Mutual friend: You guys should do it again!
RGB: Haha, yea we should. (jokingly)
Voice of Alcohol: YOU REALLY SHOULD, PUSSIES!
Mutual friends: *chanting* Jump in, Jump in!
Red: I'll do it if Green does it
Blue/Green: I'll do it if Blue/Green does it. (I was drunk, so I don't remember which of us idiots thought that this would bring this dare to a dry end).
Red: *jumps in*

So a couple dives and fountain climbs later, we head back towards the hotel, soaking wet. We had no trouble getting in, since we just looked like the sweaty otaku returning from the rave. We hit the hay after a thorough shower.

Saturday we woke up with the intent to go to the One Piece photoshoot, but failed to find it. So much fail for Team RGB this Ota :(

Red and Green continued to draw commissions. They drew so many, in fact, that we ran out of Bristol board! Wow! Let's attribute this a combination of amazing artistic talent and high demand! Not to being ill-prepared *cough*

At least we managed to eat dinner with the forumites! The food court was packed (I don't know why we were expecting anything different), so we decided to go somewhere we could get [relatively] cheap beer and shots! Yes, good ol' Hooters again. Our dearest little Wings turned 21 recently, so how could we not imbibe a few?!

It was awesome meeting you all (a few for the second time)! Hopefully we can turn this into a tradition, with even more of the forumites coming!

With too much never being enough, we head out to go barhopping with a friend of ours who lives in Baltimore. No pictures from those events, but there are a few from the aftermath I like to call "Some drunks, 1 Cup"

Sunday, Red is the only one with the willpower to wake up and set up the table. Almost telepathically, Alice and Wings show up like coffee fairies. I woke up still drunk from last night (pretty awesome, but the hangover hit me in the middle of the day), and the rest of us attempt to check out of the hotel. Green is hungover, and of no help:

All in all, it was the sleep-deprived, mostly drunk, crazy social event we have come to know and love. Yay, Otakon!

JACON

Con season seems to have kicked off, and last weekend (Memorial weekend) I spent down in Florida at JACON 09 endgame. I was once again given the opportunity to work for an Anime Dealer hauling merchandise. At first, a 12 or so hour drive wasn’t appealing, but that immediately changed when Cup told me who would be attending…

Stan Bush

This brings me to the real point of this entry… I MET STAN BUSH! For those who are unaware of this man’s greatness, he is a rocker who is responsible for the legendary song The Touch from the Transformers 86 movie. Also, for those Sailor Moon fans out there (looks at Green) he did She’s got the Power for the English soundtrack. The song originally debuted in episode 61… I think. Aside from animation, he’s been on the soundtracks for both Kickboxer and Bloodsport to name a couple. Pretty cool for any of you Jean-Claude Van Damme fans. (Once again looks at Green)

Also managed to get Mr. Stan Bush to sign Green's copy of Bloodsport. Sadly though, during his preformance, Stan Bush didn't play any music from this movie... But who cares!? I got to see him preform all his other hits!!

Geekin’ out aside, the Con on a whole was pretty small. It was your standard hotel con with nothing really new. A couple of funny things happened though. The Hentai panel was closed early as Con staff found 12-year-olds who happened to sneak in. Way to go security. Also, the dance/masquerade was delayed. Then later it was brought to the attention to the people in line that it would bleed into the Rave… so the line was soon mixed with people dolled up and glow sticks. I’m sure people were a bit annoyed... until a couple showed up and started pepper spraying people. At that point I’m sure people were pissed. This closed the dance/rave prematurely. It was the last JACON, something crazy was bound to happen.

hmmm... what seems to be out of place?...

Anywho, that’s pretty much the convention high points for me. Of course there are those crazy drinking stories after the con, but do we really want to know about that.

Road Trip... concluded

Ok so it’s been a while since cup and I arrived from our little excursion. I guess I should do this now or I’ll just keep putting it off. I wish I had actual pictures to post though…however, I lost cups camera… sorry cup.

Speaking of Cup, I had to catch myself every time I tried to get his attention. For those who don’t know, but Cup is only one out of like a bagillion names. Aside from the other coworkers at the booth, there were also the friends we managed to visit on our little trip. Depending on who we were around I had to use the right name. He has a different name for every group of people he hangs with. Which one is his real name? The world may never know.

So yea, aside from Con/ing it up, our ulterior motive was a lil friend tour. We managed to pit stop at Dallas on our way to Anime Matsuri. We had entered Texas and Cup calls his friend up at like 4a.m. to see if we could drop by and say what’s up. (Oh yea, so great being our friends). At this moment we had managed to sell enough stuff at MTAC to make a little bed in the back of the van. So when we arrived at her place, she came to greet us. Asked where cup was, at which point I opened the back of the van…

So this little detour was spent meeting/hanging out with 4 of our friends (two couples). Another night of staying up late, drinking, and laughing… followed by a 4 hour drive the next day. T’was worth every minute.

As we hit Houston, Cup already had a destination set: Visit another friend! This time it was a bit more epic. So here’s the set up: Green told our friend “Hey Red and Cup are going to Visit you in Houston.” Don (let’s call him don to make things easier.) then replies “OMG I love those guys, I can’t wait. I’m going to cry tears of Joy.” To which Green replied “April Fool’s Sucka!” (And yes this is verbatim... kinda) With that in mind, when we roll up to his office and get one of his coworkers to grab him into the hall... he was pretty shocked... it was pretty awesome.

Don let us crash at his place that evening after he showed us a good time. Cup did some laundry the next day and once again we were off. The Con was only 30min from Don’s place, so that allowed a lot more chill time with him. We also managed to get him a Dealer’s Room badge to help worth the booth. Of course that was just an excuse to just keep hanging out. It was also nice to show him his first Anime Con.

Not really much to say about working Matsuri though. A couple of things, I saw Miyavi perform. Secondly, Jason David Frank (The Green Ranger and/or the Greatest Red Ranger) was supposed to show, but didn’t due to scheduling conflicts. I hope Angel Grove was under attack and not some other lame bullshit like the Con was too small for his giant ego.

Side note about MTAC: I saw Applegeeks. Totally forgot they were like the guests of honor there. I wanted to buy something of theirs, but they wouldn’t take my money. Said something along the lines of “we don’t accept your monopoly money,” as they scoffed and kicked dirt in my face. Seriously though, cool guys, check it:

I really should wrap this up as this has gotten a bit too long. This entire trip was amazing. In a nut shell, it was a road trip with a friend to hit up anime conventions and to visit more friends. What more could I ask for?

So yea, funny story… I’m in Texas. About a week ago I was in Tennessee. Why? Because about a week ago Cup called me with a proposition: Do I want to drive merchandise for an anime dealer to two cons, MTAC and Anime Matsuri? Free room, admission to the con, free food, and I get paid... like I really needed to think about that one…so here I am with one Con down and getting ready to head off to the next one.

Before I rant about the experience, I would like to bring to everyone’s attention that I have dropped a lot of my responsibilities to the comic. Not by choice. I snagged my dad’s old laptop( by old I mean ancient) so I could work on the road. However, as soon as I booted the thing up… no photoshop. I started to freak out. The idea of missing an update popped in my head… but it’s pretty obvious that didn’t happen. I don’t know if anyone can tell, but Green has taken a chunk of the work load. So everyone, show your love and thank Green.

So here I am with Cup living out of hotels for the next two weeks. Working the Con has been a blast. I never realized how many people love to buy Ramune. It’s that drink that has that marble clinkin around inside when opened. The driving isn’t so bad… after about hour three on the road, the mind just goes on auto pilot. The worst part is that the van seats 2. There are three of us. I ended up sitting between the two seats on some combination safe. I’ll have more on this lil road trip of amazingness later, but for now I leave you with this:

Setsucon '09: Sunday

Sunday was short and sweet.

The morning started off with one of our newest fans picking up a commission request of RGB. Although he claims to be "unable to pick a favorite" I can just see his love for Blue flooding out of his pores. Thanks for sparing Red and Green's feelings. Are you registered on our site or forums yet?
The commission he requested was of RGB doing pretty much anything. Green drew a picture of a caped, crusading Red standing on a couch that Green and Blue were playing video games on. Wish I got a picture of it, actually. Wish I got pictures of ALL the commissions. I've got to make that into a habit. I did manage to catch these two beauties, though:

This con was pretty big on commissions, especially for original art. Red and Green much prefer doing original art, for anyone interested in requesting commissions in the future.

Further into the day, the otaku in me came out, and I went on a blindbox buying spree. Not only was I extremely lucky that day, but the dealer was cool enough to let me swap for dupes. And so, because of that

I was able to get every piece of the "Robot" set. Considering how quiet the Dealer's Room/Artist alley was at the time, my squeals of glee could be heard throughout. "Robot" is a series of contemporary art stories compiled by Range Murata. Check it out if you haven't already. A similar series to check out, which is considerably less dark and disturbing, is titled "Flight". I recommend you give "Flight" a try, first.

When 2:30 rolls around, Red heads off to the closing ceremonies while Cup goes to compete in the Iron Cosplay event. Much like Iron Chef, the contestants are assigned the task of creating a dish (in this case, a cosplay) with a secret ingredient (in this case, paper and tape). Cup made it to the final around with his Setsurai/Kingkon gear:

If you couldn't guess, Cup is the one on the left. He armed this girl after the contest ended. Told me he lost to one of the lolita girls, who made a dress:

Setsucon overall was a great deal of fun. I recall Red saying that there's something nice about smaller cons... had to do with the fact that you could become friendlier with the attendees. We definitely picked up a few more friends at this con

Setsucon '09: Saturday

You know, I started writing out this blog entry, doing a mental outline of things to cover... and I thought to myself "holy shit, I can't even remember one of the days we were there... did I really drink that much? I know I didn't drink that much compared to the other guys, but how could I forget about a whole day?!"

That should give you an idea of what Setsucon was like. Of course I didn't have that much to drink, but the fact that it was possible scenario should be added into consideration. I was just slow to remember that Setsucon is a 2-day con. Oh Otakon, how you have spoiled me.

We arrived at the Days Inn on Friday night, before the con kicked off. Since Green attended State College, we had a few friends in the area to visit.

After our "visit" (which inevitably involved some minor alcohol consumption), we returned to the hotel, thanking our lucky stars that we would be able to just wake up and already be at the con in the morning.

Saturday morning, we get our con passes and start setting up the table. I think that this was probably the nicest table setup we've had so far:

Red sculpted hair onto some Hasbro Mighty Muggs, and painted them with the aid of Green and Cup to make them look like your favorite color-based superhero trio! And before you ask, they're not for sale. Well... they're for sale, but for an outrageous price, because we don't want to let go of them.

Since Red won the Setsucon art contest, and had his piece printed on the Cover of the booklet, he was invited to the opening ceremony and was presented a Setsucon shirt that had the same piece printed on it. It sounded awesome.

We were lucky enough to get a table right next to our good friend, Kilika of Blue and Blond. Right next to him was Applegeek's table with Ananth and Yuko. And last, but certainly not least, was Dave Lister of Paradox Lost. It was pretty cool to be seated next to all the big webcomics. We were even invited to speak at the Webcomics 101 panel along with them!

The room was less than packed, to say the least. But it was definitely a lot of fun. I didn't really feel like we had any right to answer audience questions, seeing as to how there are some longer running, more well-known webcomic artists sitting right next to us... but I like to think we earned a few new fans with our charm, wit and... drunken antics. The room-wide Pictochat was highly entertaining and thankfully short of penises. Some overly-insulting picto-thoughts about Kilika may have surfaced, but at least they came from his good friend, Dave.

After imparting all of our vast webcomic knowledge (really, we spoke for what couldn't have been more than 6 minutes total), a lot of the people from the panel audience visited our table! Very, very cool.

The rest of the day went pretty standard as far as cons go. Checked out the Dealer's Room (my personal favorite), thought about attending a video or two, scrounged for food and coffee (typical con survival tactics), and try to take pictures of some awesome cosplays:

Halloween '08

Hey friends! This is primarily going to be a picture post (you're welcome). It's been almost two weeks since Halloween, and RGB has been doing a great deal of drinking recently (see previous post). Memories are mostly erased.

We had a Batman theme going on this year, since a good friend of ours had a Batman themed birthday party. As the saying goes: two birds, one stone. I went as The Scarecrow (Nolan version), while Red and Green went as the 60's versions of Robin and The Riddler, respectively. It was too late when I realized my costume would be way creepier than my fun-loving buddies'. Damn! We met at The Metro before heading off into Georgetown. No DD needed!

Behold, the power of the sidekick! Perfect for fighting the more common plagues of mankind. Also, how awesome is it that we're masked? No need to superimpose RGB heads!

We started with his wallet, but he ended up stealing mine, so I hid his keys and typed that up in case I forgot where I hid them (I had also been drinking, if you couldn't tell).

Polysics!!!!

Last Thursday, Team RGB and Cup went to go see Polysics at Black Cat over in D.C. As soon as we enter, we see Chen, Eric, and another friend, Terro. Shame on the rest of you for not coming! You missed a damn good show!

The opening acts were great. Green and I really liked Black Gold, the first act. The drummer had a really cool look and energy. The lead singer/keyboardist occasionally performs as Panic at the Disco’s keyboardist, but Black Gold is his official band. Next up was Jaguar Love. They were a high-energy Indie/Rock band. Unfortunately, the crowd was not feeling them. I liked them, but it was a little apparent that they were not really into the show. Their guitarist kicked ass, and the lead singer had a pretty unique voice.

And finally, out came Polysics! They came out to set up their own instruments. I caught myself thinking “well… this is a little anticlimactic. They killed their dramatic entrance.” I was worried the show was going to be weak.

Holy shit was I worried over nothing.

They had an AMAZING show. I really wasn’t expecting it to be so fun, but the crowd was flipping out. Hiroyuki really knew how to get them pumped. Engrish’ll do that. Hiroyuki was crazy. The crowd was crazy. Fumi (bass) and Masashi (drums) were crazy. Kayo (synth) was a robot. I love her.

Unfortunately, the camera we brought died before we could take a lot of pictures.

Luckily, our new friend, Keang, sent us these:

As you can probably tell, we were right at the front of the stage. We partially have the mosh pit to thank for that. Who the hell would have expected a mosh pit at a Polysics show?! Someone even threw Green into the air and he crowd-surfed for a good bit.

When the show ended, and the crowd left, I went to go buy a shirt and stickers for the band to sign. Hell yes I'm gonna get their signatures! Even came prepared with a sharpee. Check the previous post. What's with asians and their ability to draw cute shit? Can everyone do this?!

Keang had to leave the show early, so we don't have any pictures of RGB actually with Polysics... but we've got the signatures to prove it. Green got everyone to sign his tie, and Masashi even signed a broken drumstick that Hiroyuki gave to the crowd.

Here's a picture of how Red and I slept last night.

...just kidding, just kidding.

It's the yaoi commission he was asked for, the previous night! Red woke up at 5am to do it! This is just the line-art, but the final was colored in Photoshop. It was amusing to watch him print it at Kinkos, while trying to avoid the eyes of other people there.

Sunday was a short day, as they are at most anime cons.

A few interesting people came by our table. Some even mentioned the Princess Bride reference in the Otakon special we have printed out. Impressive! We didn't think anyone would actually catch that.

By the way, Red is a huge fan of Card Captor Sakura, so if you ladies ever want to visit our table and appeal to him, go for the sweet loli look ;x

They don't give artists (or webmasters and helpers) very much room behind the table at these conventions. We usually watched the table in pairs, and let whoever else was there go explore the con. Cup spent most of his time dueling in Yu-Gi-Oh. I went to a few panels. Red spent most of his time at the table (but he did come watch some awesome AMVs with me at one point).

We also spent the last few hours trying to make sure we didn't miss anything in the dealer's room. As usual, temptations are in abundance. Cup bought these pretty cool Batman blind boxes. Got doubles, though :/

I saw this cool Gurren Lagann shirt I was tempted to buy. It was gray, with a big picture of Yoko on it.

I spent my time at the table reading Red's copy of "Love Mode". He claims he was using it for "reference" for the commission last night. Right... Well, it was actually pretty good! I mean, the story was totally there. And to be honest, half of the reason I was reading it was because of how graphic it was. Not because I enjoy seeing naked bishies, but for the shock factor. It was sort of like watching a boxing match... like when one guy gets hit REALLY hard, and you grimace and try to empathize with the pain. Except these guys were getting hit in other places. And... not with fists...

Anyway... moving on, I decided to pass some time by watching Macross Frontier at one of the video rooms, when I was diverted by a repetitive clanging noise. It was the Peelander Z show! I can't believe we almost didn't make it! When I went inside, I saw that half of the group wasn't even on the stage. Peelanders Yellow and Pink were in the audience. Yellow was wearing a bowling pin outfit while audience members were trying to throw hulahoops on him. What the fuck? Half of the crowd had metal tin bowls and drumsticks, and were banging along with the rhythm. Easily one of the craziest audience-participative shows I've ever been to.

Then he crowdsurfed for a good bit. We really need to look into this guy as a replacement. He's even got the feminine mannerisms ;D

AnimeUSA '08: Saturday

We had a slow start on Saturday. After a late night working on the new PVC display (crafted by yours truly), and an early morning for prints, it's a shock that we managed to get our table up and running in the amount of time we did.

Me and Cup watch the table while Red draws out another sign. We were thinking of making a new sign for every con, and selling to interested buyers. What do you guys think?

Kilika also came by with his hula girl, Jess! We love having visitors. He even drew an RGB-style Kilika to grace our posters. You can see it here, hanging form "The Debut" image on the right:

In the evening, there's a commotion on the floor above us, where most of the Con guests are located. Someone is jumping and blowing a whistle. You can tell they were jumping by the short, staccato bursts that the whistle was being blown with. Cup goes to check it out, and it turns out to be Peelander Z!!! Well, we just can't resist another color-themed group! Cup was gracious enough to watch the table while we mob some well-dressed rockers.

We also explain our tough situation, with Green at a wedding and all. Peelander Green said he was willing to fill in. We might even consider him as a full-time replacement. Playing the drums is just about as awesome as a never-ending watering can. I bet this guy doesn't get arrested, either.

They tell us to check out their show tomorrow. Before the day ends, Red has a very difficult commission requested of him at the last minute. A full-color yaoi one!

AnimeUSA '08: Friday

After lunch with friends and some last-minute Kabuki Ball preparation, Red, Cup and I begin the quick drive to Crystal City. Here's a tidbit of our conversation on the way there:

Red:	Well it's all about appearance. Ben Franklin made sure that he was always carrying a different book every day, and seen going in and out of the library by his professors. It made everyone think he was smart.
Red:	...do you think that if you pretend to be something long enough, you take on that role?
Me:	I think it has a lot to do with what you're pretending to be. If you pretend to do manual labor for years, you're bound to become great at that job. But people can fake intelligence for a long time without actually getting smarter...
Red:	What? Ben Franklin became president!
Blue & Cup:	...what was that?
Red:	Are you guys kidding me? He's on the 100 dollar bill!
This is where Cup and I start laughing hysterically.
Red:	Wait, are you guys fucking with me?
Cup:	No, I'm trying to figure out if YOU'RE fucking with ME
Red:	Shit...are you serious? ... Oh God, can we not tell anyone about this?
Blue:	Yea, I won't tell anyone. But you can bet your ass this is going on the blog

After we arrive, we see something amazing.

AnimeUSA is our first hotel-based con.

So after a bit of social lubrication, we make our way down a few floors to the Artist Alley Operations room. The Head Op isn't there right now (what a cool name for a con job, by the way), so they tell us to kill an hour and a half. What perfect timing! Just across the hall is the ballroom, where rehearsal for the Kabuki Ball is just beginning!

The rehearsal was a lot of fun.
Here's a picture of us with our instructor. He teaches and competes professionally. That's his "competition" clothing.
We learned how to Waltz, Foxtrot and Rumba.
Dance lessons pretty much made up for the entry fee. $50 for an anime con and ballroom dance? Good deal.

So after rehearsal, we set up our table arrangements and then head out to a sports bar for dinner. Red proceeds to get happy on a few jack and cokes. Then we dress up and head off to the real ball.

The Kabuki Ball was surreal.

I've never seen so many properly dressed otaku gathered for one thing. Not only that, but dancing? You had me at hello, AnimeUSA.

There were also some very cool couple-cosplays at the ball! Aside from this Tenchi Muyo pair, there was this awesome Fate/Stay group. The Rin had a dress that played off of the sweater that she wears, and her Archer looked pretty spot-on. I can't seem to find the picture, though :3
Also a Wang Liu Mei and Hong Long pair from Gundam 00. The lighting wasn't very good for my shitty camera, though... so a few pictures didn't come out well ;~;

The ball was great. This alone made the trip to AnimeUSA worth it, and we didn't even have a table yet!

Rejection can be rough, though...

Oh well, it was a time for celebration! It was the Con President's (or maybe Pope's?) birthday! A cake was brought out, and as expected of otaku, immediate conspiracy theories about the "truthfulness" of the cake at hand. (The Cake is a Lie, for those of you can't think with portals)

After the cake, we pretty much stayed and danced a couple more hours until they kicked us out for FreezePop!

We were too pumped to wait in line for the show or go home. So we ran around the con, caught some cosplayers, and went to the "Anime Dating Show" and "What Not to Say to a Female Otaku" panels.

We probably should have gone home earlier, considering the table preparation we needed to do for the next day :x

AnimeUSA '08: Thursday

Thursday before AnimeUSA, RGB had dinner with Kilika. Kilika is our webcomic buddy, the artist/writer for Blue and Blond. Turns out we have yet another mutual friend, who was kind enough to bring us together for dinner at The Buffalo Wing Factory. Small world.

We had a lot of fun. His experience is really useful for us webcomic noobies. Hopefully I can trick him into taking me surfing sometime, too. Here's a video of him eating the hottest, most painful buffalo wing found this side of the Mississippi:

Unfortunately, Kilika seems to be the manliest bastard we know, so he's not very fazed. Sorry, all. I suggest going to BWF and trying one out for yourself. Maybe shoot for 10 and get your name on the wall.

Welcome back!

For Saturday and Sunday it became a bit more routine. So instead of reading a bunch, how ‘bout we do a picture post! Let’s not lie to ourselves, that’s pretty much what everyone really cares about.

Saturday's art selection grew by 2 new prints: Sayonara Lily and Deus. To my surprise they were very popular. Also started the whole commission thingy.

We actually sold the hand drawn banner on Sunday. I figured we needed something esle, so...Got blue to find a free poster they were handing out. Turned it around. Taped it to the wall behind us. Busted out the sharpie once more, and Poof! Man I'm so freakin' resourceful/super amazing.

Here's one for the ladies, his bedroom. Nice place, great guy, and I hear he's single...

His place was really nice. Very organized and clean just like the owner. J.M. was very hospitable and really tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Such a great guy. Though it did really help us out in terms of cash flow, it was an opportunity to just hang out with him.

We actually left the portfolio with all the artwork when we headed home. Soooo, green called J.M. up. Green tried to see if J.M. was going to their Alma mater's Homecoming to see if Green could get it back then. However, J.M. had a much better plan: Give it to Cup. Why is this a better idea you may ask... well thats 'cuz Cup was actually going to be in NY the following Monday for work... something we just brought up in conversation and had totally forgot about. How crazy and intelligent was that idea!? Oh Jan-Michael, your are so brilliant, that or we were just too tired to remember any of the finer details of that weekend.

Before I bring this to an end, there's just one more thing... we had dinner at White Castle...

I believe just me and blue were White Castle virgins, while J.M. and Green had the pleasure several times before. Its always fun to take food adventures. They had so many different kinds, both blue and I were tempted to order one of each kind. They even had a Crave Case for 30 hamburgers...sick...

Thank god we just ordered 20 hamburgers. We actually ended up taking most of it home as we couldn't find ourselves finishing it.

Well I hope you enjoyed that, I know we did. If I missed anything hopefully green or blue can fill in any gaps. Now I leave you with this: (and blue wonders why he's such sour grapes...)

NYAF: friday

Hey there internet people, time for the follow up on NYAF.

After our first table experience at Otakon back in August, we came a bit more prepared. This year our booth wasn’t as bare as Green had put forth the effort in buying some PVC to build our simple display stand. Also, I thought we needed some sort of banner that said REGRBL. Of course that idea didn’t hit me till the night before. What else could I do but improvise. I remembered that we had a couple of foam core sheets. Cup had left it at my place back during his fiber glassing phase. So I busted out the sharpie and 3 colored markers, and BAM! We had ourselves a banner.

Yeah I know it’s not the prettiest/polished thing in the world, but hell it was better than nothing.

We left at around 3:00am on Friday morning to make the 12:00pm deadline (We were informed that we had to be set up by noon at the very latest). I’m not going into detail the shit storm that ensued during the drive into/in NY, (that’s a whole different story) but let me say this… it was the suck. We arrive at the con to set up. We put together the PVC to only realize the C-clamps that we were going to use were too small. The C-clamps were the main support from PVC to table. Who knew that tables could be so thick? Luckily our table neighbors were very friendly and had duct tape. Crisis averted.

So there’s the table and all its glory. I thought it was pretty sweet in comparison to our barren booth back in Otakon.

About the con itself:
It’s no Otakon. Going to Otakon all these years have spoiled us. It’s not that big considering it was held in such a massive convention center. Still, it wasn’t bad. No real lines on Friday. I managed to walk the entire floor and see everything before the days end. At least there’s always cool cosplay to see.

Now, the first day is always slow. Tack on the fact none of us has slept since Wednesday, you get a sleepy trio of superheroes. Green had the brilliant idea of cutting out white paper and taping it inside his mask. I followed with a more brilliant idea:

Several people got a kick out of that, even took pictures of him.

Blue decided to nap under the table instead. Smart guy.

About the Subway:
No matter how many times we rode it to the same destinations; we could never do it flawlessly. It was a toss up between missing our stop and getting on the wrong train. Still, it’s always fun to ride the Subway.

As most of you all know this past weekend Blue, Green, and I attended the New York Anime Festival. Running in its second year it is a relatively new con. I was hoping to fill you guys in on the whole experience but instead I decided to watch Heroes/Project Runway with Blue, Green, and our new addition Vivy…kinda funny, we lose one asian girl and one just comes around… not that we don’t miss Lily a whole lot, its just bizarre.

2 things for this little post: 1. driving the Jersey Turnpike through the Lincoln Tunnel was probably the stupidest thing I’ve had to drive through. Freaking 6 lanes flow into like 2 tunnels!? Of course I’m exaggerating a bit, but the last hour on our trek was spent in traffic at the boarder of NJ and NY.

And number 2. I met the lovely Veronica Taylor! If you guys aren’t familiar with that name, how ‘bout Ash Ketchum? Or or or April O’Neil!!?? Or my personal favorite, Scarlet from G.I. Joe Sigma 6. It was pretty amazing to talk to her and recieve words of encouragement. Now check out this snazzy autograph!

So to start things off... Welcome to the REGRBLog!

A couple of weekends ago, Blue, Green, Lily and yours truly went out to go shopping. I was in need of a new pair of shoes and it was such a nice day outside, so we headed to Georgetown. It was nice to walk and enjoy the weather as well as peruse the local shops. Blue and Lily showed Green and I some pretty neat-o places, but I had yet came across a pair of shoes I liked... well aside from the Onitsuka Tigers, that for some odd reason came in every size but mine.

Our journey was coming to a close and I decided to just find something online. As I waited on Green and Lily to finish up on their massive amounts of spending, Blue said "hey lets check out Sportzone before we go." Lemme tell ya, best move ever. Why you ask? this is why:

Yes its exactly what you think, and that is Wave 2 of the Voltron Force shoes by Reebok. That totally made my day. So Green Blue and I are now proud owners of the Voltron Shoes.

On our way to Lily's for dinner I decided to do something I'd been putting off for some time... Building Voltron. Several Months back Cup surprised me with the Voltron 20th Anniversary Masterpiece Toy that was released back in 2005. Freakin' awesome and such a kind gesture which left me geeking out.
